Under One Roof Announces Restructuring Plan

to Weather Economic Downturn

Full Time Executive Director/General Manager Position to be Eliminated;

Board of Directors to Spearhead Efforts to Increase Revenue Opportunities

SAN FRANCISCO, CA - The Board of Directors of Under One Roof, one of the largest providers of unrestricted financial grants to AIDS Service Organizations (ASOs) in the San Francisco Bay Area, today announced plans to restructure its operating model given the current economic climate.

Among the changes announced by the Board:

·         Executive Director & General Manager Mark Burns has stepped down from his position.

For the foreseeable future, the Board will eliminate the full time position of Executive Director & General Manager.

·         Former Board Member Beth Feingold will serve as Interim Executive Director in a part time capacity to ensure continuity of store operations.  Feingold will also work with the Board to review the current business model and work to create a strategy for long term success.

·         Gregg Gerst, Chair of the UOR Board along with Board Committee Chairs will assume responsibility for ASO relations, fundraising and event planning.

·         Deana Hemrich will stay on as Retail Director& Buyer, Rene Rivers will continue his responsibilities as Finance Director and Steven Sagaser will enhance his focus on Donated Goods and Volunteer Development.

·         UOR has deepened its relationship with its dedicated staff of volunteers who have found additional ways to improve store programs and help ensure future success.

“Based on the economic environment facing Under One Roof; the Board of Directors, along with our Executive Director, had to face the hard facts that cost cutting measures were needed,” said Gerst.  “While we hate to lose Mark’s leadership, we just cannot financially support a full time Executive Director/General Manager position right now and continue providing the same level of financial support to the many ASOs that need our help.”

Gerst praised Burn’s leadership in overseeing UOR’s move to a larger store space in the Castro, the successful offsite sales and fundraising events during his tenure, as well as the new Under One Roof Community Resource Center recently opened in Mom’s Pharmacy in the Castro.  The new center provides the community with a comprehensive guide to the programs and services available from the ASOs supported by Under One Roof.

Gerst also noted that despite the financial challenges facing the organization, UOR was still able to donate $36,000 to 27 ASOs on March 31, 2009.

“Mark’s passion for the HIV/AIDS community has never faltered and he leaves behind a great legacy at Under One Roof,” added Gerst. “We all wish him well and thank him for his service as the Board now faces the task of continuing his work in today’s challenging economic environment.”
