Derek was elected to the Under One Roof Board of Directors in June of 2005, and to the role of Chair in February 2006. Originally from New York, he has lived in the Bay Area since 1999 and is currently Managing Partner and one of several principal founders of Ignition Point Ventures LLC, a company focused on growing existing businesses, executive and organizational development, and securing sources of funding and financing. He has extensive operational experience within high technology, telecommunications, retail, real estate, and healthcare industries. Before starting Ignition Point, Derek was Senior Director of Operations for a division of Homestore.com, one of the largest technology companies developing a wide variety of products and services for the real estate industry. While living in Washington, DC for nine years, he held senior executive positions at Vialog Communications (now Genesys Conferencing) where he oversaw unit operations and corporate integration initiatives through the merger and acquisition of six business operations, eventually leading up to an IPO. It was also in Washington where Derek began his volunteer and philanthropic work. Derek’s for-profit successes and competencies have allowed him to transfer this knowledge and successfully serve on the boards of several community non-profit and national political organizations like The Victory Fund. To date, he is most honored to have helped plan and build San Francisco’s LGBT Community Center – a $13m project that is the first and largest in the country to be built from the ground up. Derek holds a B.A. in Liberal Studies from Marymount University.
