ONE ROOF DONATES $30,000 TO SAN FRANCISCO AIDS AND HIV CHARITIES IN 2011
Rounds
out its 20th anniversary year with a $10,000 payout during a time of
increased need within the AIDS community
December 29, 2011 - San Francisco,
CA –Under One Roof (www.underoneroof.org) is
announcing it has distributed another $10,000 to the AIDS and HIV service
organizations it supports, bringing its total 2011 payout to $30,000. This is
an inspiring development during a time when many charitable agencies are
struggling to meet their missions due to significantly reduced public and
private funding.
The payout to agencies this year was
enhanced by two special distributions raised by Under One Roof Chair Emeritus,
Marc Hettinger, during his 60th birthday celebration in August. These
distributions totaled $5000 each and went to AIDS Legal Referral Panel (ALRP) and Pets are Wonderful Support (PAWS).
Under One Roof was created in 1991
by group of friends in San Francisco who opened a small retail shop on Market
street for the holiday season, with the goal of donating the proceeds to local AIDS Service Organizations (ASOs). Customers were
thrilled to support the fight against AIDS – and raise funds for loved ones –
simply by giving gifts.
Two years after its initial launch,
Under One Roof opened a year-round store, dedicated to providing unrestricted
funding to ASOs with limited fundraising capabilities. It has continued to
thrive for two decades due to the efforts of hundreds of volunteers, generous
donors and the San Francisco community. In its 20+ years of operation, Under
One Roof has donated upwards of $4 million to the AIDS and HIV community.
